USB 3.0 Anunciada

"Uma nova tecnologia substituirá o USB 2.0 em 2008. O padrão USB 3.0 foi anunciado hoje por um grupo de empresas chamado "USB 3.0 Promoter Group", formado pela HP, Microsoft, NEC, NXP, Texas Instruments, e Intel. O grupo tem por proposta que, em meados do próximo ano, tenhamos um padrão USB compatível com os modelos anteriores, e 10 vezes mais rápido que os atuais 480 Mbps. Liderado pela Intel, o grupo terá a cooperação do "USB Implementer's Forum". Este, servirá como uma organização que cuidará da parte comercial do USB 3.0, concluindo que administrará o logotipo de compatibilidade e outras iniciativas de marketing. A Intel disse que o principal ponto do grupo é fazer o novo padrão ser dez vezes mais rápido que o atual USB 2.0.
Outros objetivos incluem eficiência do protocolo, e requisitos mínimos de energia menores. O padrão se focará em aplicações que necessitem alta transferência de multimídia, incluindo PCs, dispositivos portáteis e outros a nível consumidor.
Ainda segundo a Intel, a compatibilidade de cabos e conectores com versões anteriores do padrão USB será mantida, preservando também toda a infraestrutura e investimento em drivers, facilidade de uso, visual, entre outros. A tecnologia USB 3.0 aparecerá discretamente no mercado, se integrando aos poucos em chipsets e SoCs (system-on-chip processors), provavelmente no meio do ano de 2008."
